given up reading books due to my slow reading habit, i started to read comics 2 years ago..my first catch was the hot gimmick series; a good one that i never stop buying comics eversince

hot gimmick #1-12: innocent hatsumi to choose the love of three hot guys - ryoki: childhood enemy, azusa: childhood saviour or shinogu: adopted brother?

however, i only buy the locally printed and translated versions of japanese manga..much cheaper hehe..the imported english version normally cost MYR30+ each but gempak starz's malay versions are only MYR 6.50 or the most MYR 7.50 for the coloured ones..see the difference?

my next favourite would be le gardenie by our local comic artist, ben..superb drawings, nicely coloured but a bit sedih

recently i bought P.L.A.I.N janes, a graphic novel originally published in North America but reprinted in Malaysia (so it's half the price of imported comics! haha mata duitan)..it's about a group of misfits, all named Jane, performing guerrila acts of art that inspire people to think, laugh and live --> really cool, i like!

anyway, what i'm trying to convey here is..comics aren't just for kids anymore, but also for grown-ups..they aren't just about superheroes or doraemon's magic pocket or the underage pervert sinchan, but also, significant stories about the reality of our everyday life

Ketiadaan aktiviti punca kanak-kanak, remaja ganggu talian kecemasan

SEREMBAN: Kajian Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Negeri Sembilan (JBPNS) mendapati setiap kali musim cuti persekolahan panggilan kacau ganggu talian kecemasan yang diterima meningkat berbanding hari biasa.

Pengarah JBPNS, Mohd Salleh Sarbini, berkata peningkatan panggilan itu berkemungkinan disebabkan kanak-kanak dan remaja kurang aktiviti seperti hari persekolahan yang menyebabkan mereka membuat panggilan berkenaan.

"Saya berharap ibu bapa dapat memainkan peranan bagi menerangkan kepentingan talian kecemasan dan kegunaannya kepada anak mereka.

"Ia perlu dilakukan kerana perbuatan mereka bukan saja menyukarkan pihak bomba memberikan bantuan kecemasan malah boleh membahayakan nyawa orang yang memerlukan bantuan segera," katanya.

Mohd Salleh berkata, ibu bapa juga perlu mengingatkan anak masing-masing bahawa perbuatan yang dilakukan itu adalah salah dari segi undang-undang dan boleh dikenakan tindakan.

white shoes and the couples company

"yang muda lebih tua, yang tua lebih banyak"

as unique as their name may be, white shoes and the couples company plays the retro tunes of the 1930s and 1970s..the young indonesian band in their 60s hairdo and clothing, first released their self-titled album in 2005 in indonesia..it was only last year, the band was signed by an american indie label for international release of their album..

..and it was only last week i heard them on channel V! waduhh2..harus cepat2 beli album ini dong! bagus banget!! ;)

no. 2 to 6 are common, but no. 1 - bathe at night, instead of in the morning?

lari concept

i was on a bus to kelantan, and then back to kl in within 24 hours last week..the journey was damn cold and torturing nak mati!! cold to the bone and rasanye tulang sumsum pun boleh beku!!! gile tak..it was raining outside, and yet they had full blast air cond..memang totally lari concept okk! fyi, air cond is created for thermal comfort i.e. switch it on when you feel uncomfortable with the heat..so kalau sejuk or panas suam2 je, pasang la slow2..ni kalau satu bas berselubung and gigi ketar2 tahan sejuk tak ke dah lari concept namanye tu?! hmph!

mat saleh

my colleague was referring mat saleh as 'ang moh', which means bulu merah (red hair) in chinese --> i think she actually meant rambut merah (blondie) ;p

on the other hand, malays normally use orang putih or mat saleh when addressing the westerners..since western people have fair skin, the term orang putih i.e. white people is pretty straightforward..but somehow we couldn't relate the use of mat saleh in this context as mat means man, guy, a male; while saleh is a malay name for guys

then i found this interesting story..

mat salleh was originated from the word 'mad sailor'..in the early years, most mat saleh in Tanah Melayu were sailors, and they were always drunk..when local people talked to them, these sailors said "he's mad! a mad sailor!" to each other..but since malays' tongue are not tailored for english words, the locals could only pronounced 'mad sailor' as mat saler..and in time, it became mat saleh!

numbers

whenever i'm on the road, my hobby is to sum up the numbers of car license plate

for instance BBN 8674 gives 25

the summation method that i used pun lain macam sket (hahaha..perasan genius!)

taking the example above, i’d first rearrange the numbers to get any sub-summation closest or equal to 10

BBN 8674 --> 6487 --> (6+4)+(8+7)=10+15=25

another example..

WMM 1569 --> 1956 --> (1+9)+(5+6)=10+11=21

but when i encounter license plate with all numbers bigger than 5, i’d just add them up in sequential pairs (i.e. 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th) like this..

WAS 9786 --> (9+7)+(8+6)=16+14=30

however, i rarely sum them up in series as it would be too complicated..what i meant here is this..

BBN 8674 --> 8+6+7+4=14+7+4=21+4=25

and if i’m feeling extra rajin that day..i’d also sum up the letters according to their order in roman alphabets

for example WMM is equivalent to (23)(13)(13) --> 23+13+13=23+26=49

(note that i did not choose 23+13+13=36+13=49 since summing identical numbers is always easier i.e. 13+13 and 2+2)

so..BBN 8674 does not only give you 25, but also 43 (i.e. 18+25) !

why i blog..

hehe..can't believe that i finally decided to start blogging..the reasons why i thought i shouldn't in the first place were:

1. i'm not good in writing..in fact i'm reaaallly bad in writing


2. very3x ignorant..plus not smart enough to comment on issues thus i seldom have my own point of view


3. no time..so busybee


4. "hidupku, privasiku" (my life, my privacy) ---> chewahh..poyo jek

and now, the reasons why i think i should are:

1. blogging can improve my writing..pobody's nerfect anyway


2. being ignorant caused underutilization of my brain..so blogging will get me to read more and know more to take up the free memory space


3. have lots and lots of time now!


4. i can also talk about other people's life jugak kan? ;p

so ta-da..there goes my first post..hopefully the following posts won't bore you to death la ye..keep swimming ;)
